Grooming your kitten

In addition to choosing the best kitten food, vaccinations, and regular deworming, caring for your kitten goes a step further. Pharmacy4Pets has all the supplies needed to care for your furry friend.

Everything for your kitten's daily care

Pharmacy4Pets offers a wide range of care products for your kitten.

Skin and coat care for your kitten

It’s best to get your kitten used to being brushed as early as possible. Keep the sessions short and reward your kitten with playtime or a treat so that brushing becomes something positive – an important part of the bond between you and your kitten. The amount of coat care needed varies per kitten. A long-haired kitten will benefit from daily brushing sessions, while the coat of a short-haired kitten requires much less maintenance. Regular brushing prevents tangles and even matting.

Bathing your kitten is rarely necessary. Fortunately, as most kittens don’t particularly enjoy it! If needed, for instance, if your kitten becomes unexpectedly dirty, Pharmacy4Pets offers a wide range of shampoos and conditioners for cats. Did you know there is even special “dry shampoo” for kittens? It comes in the form of a foam that doesn’t need to be rinsed out.

Note: Flea shampoo is probably the most commonly used shampoo for kittens, but it’s not very effective: it only removes the fleas present at the time and offers no lasting protection. It’s much better to protect your kitten against fleas with a spot-on product, tablet, or flea collar.

Has your kitten played a bit too rough? Minor wounds can be treated with honey ointment like Vetramil Honey Ointment. More serious damage from scratching can be prevented by using an Elizabethan collar or a Medical Pet Shirt. These products are essential items in your first-aid kit.

Soft paws

A good scratching post or board is very important: teaching your kitten early to use the scratching post instead of sharpening its claws on the sofa will save you many problems. Trimming your kitten’s nails is rarely necessary unless they grow irregularly or your kitten gets stuck in the carpet. Of course, you can also trim the sharp tips for your own comfort. With a special nail clipper for kittens, the job is done in no time.

Dental care for your kitten

It’s a good idea to get your kitten used to having its teeth checked and cared for from a young age. Until the age of five to six months, it will be teething, so brushing might be a bit sensitive. Preventing plaque and tartar is essential for keeping your kitten’s adult teeth healthy. You can practice brushing your kitten's teeth step by step. Pharmacy4Pets offers a wide range of cat toothbrushes, finger toothbrushes, and cat toothpaste.

Eye and ear care

It’s best to check your kitten’s eyes and ears daily for abnormalities or dirt. If your kitten is squinting, shaking its head, scratching its ears, or has very dirty ears, consult your veterinarian. A tear streak without eye inflammation can be cleaned with a special eye cleaner such as Bogacare Perfect Eye Cleaner. Kittens’ ears are naturally a bit oily, which helps trap pathogens. In most cases, cleaning them is unnecessary. Over-cleaning or using the wrong products can even do more harm than good. If your kitten’s ears are genuinely dirty, use a special ear cleaner like Epi-Otic Ear Cleaner or Monoclean, preferably after a check-up by the vet.
