Carprodyl Quadri
Carprodyl Quadri is suitable for reducing inflammation and pain caused by disorders of the musculoskeletal system and degenerative joint diseases such as osteoarthritis in dogs. Additionally, Carprodyl Quadri can be used for pain management after surgery.
How Carprodyl Quadri Works
Carprodyl contains the active ingredient carprofen. Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces inflammation and relieves pain in dogs.
Dosage of Carprodyl Quadri
Carprodyl Quadri is available in palatable chewable tablets of 50mg and 120mg. The initial dosage of Carprodyl is 4 mg of carprofen per kg of body weight per day. Each chewable tablet can be divided into quarters for precise dosing based on the animal's body weight. The pain-relieving effect of each dose lasts at least 12 hours. You should follow your veterinarian’s advice regarding administration frequency (how often per day), dosage, and duration of treatment, as this depends on how your dog responds to the medication.
Medication and Supplements Alongside Carprodyl Quadri
Carprodyl Quadri is widely used in dogs with osteoarthritis, a chronic and troublesome joint disease. Osteoarthritis is a complex process influenced by multiple factors. In addition to Carprodyl Quadri, complementary medications, supplements, exercise, and dietary recommendations are often advised to provide optimal support for the dog.
Pain Relievers
Pain relievers are crucial for dogs with osteoarthritis. Reduced pain helps dogs move more, which keeps their joints flexible. Additionally, pain relievers such as Carprodyl Quadri have an anti-inflammatory effect on the joints, slowing the progression of osteoarthritis. Some dogs require daily pain medication, while others only need it during flare-ups of pain or inflammation. Previcox belongs to the group of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). It is essential never to combine two types of NSAIDs. However, a veterinarian may choose to combine Carprodyl Quadri with pain relievers that have a different mechanism of action.
Maintaining a Healthy Weight
Many dogs with osteoarthritis are overweight, which significantly increases stress on the musculoskeletal system. Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial to reducing strain on the joints. If your dog is overweight, a special diet such as Sanimed Weight Reduction can help achieve a healthier weight.
Nutrition and Supplements
Your dog's joints can be supported from within through specific diets and supplements.
- Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) from fish oil are known for their lubricating properties and anti-inflammatory effects. These can be added to the diet in the form of supplements, such as Doils Joint or Seraquin Omega Dog 60 tablets. There is also special joint-supporting food like Sanimed Osteoarthritis Dog, which contains high levels of EPA and DHA.
- Supplements with undenatured collagen, such as Flexadin Advanced, and supplements based on devil’s claw (Harpagophytum), such as Iso-Joint +Acute, can support the joints and help maintain mobility in dogs.
Note: Carprodyl is often considered highly palatable. This makes it easy to administer, but it is also important to store the tablets safely out of your dog’s reach to prevent accidental overdose.
